Regular physical activity is one of the lifestyle changes linked to lower blood pressure. The AHA recommends at least 150 minutes a week of moderate activity, like brisk walking.
What counts
Brisk walking, cycling, swimming and dancing all count. The American Heart Association also recommends muscle-strengthening activity at least 2 days a week.
Start small
You don't need long workouts — 10-minute walks add up.
Be safe
- Check with your doctor before starting if you have heart disease or very high readings.
- Stop if you feel chest pain, dizziness or short of breath.
- If your blood pressure is 180/120 or higher, don't exercise and contact your doctor.
How FourNumbers helps
Guided home workouts come with voice coaching and safety notes, and workouts are paused automatically after a very high reading.
